What you can see here is a hive of stingless Australian native bees in action! Watch them as they bring local pollen and nectar back to the hive. Inside the nest are thousands of worker bees and one queen that lays all the eggs. These bees can produce small quantities of honey, also known as Sugarbag. Can you see any guard bees at the entrance?
Quick Facts
- These bees are stingless and harmless to humans!
- The colony has only one queen that will never leave the hive once mated.
- The bees can produce around 1kg of honey per year.
- The most common varieties are Tetragonula Carbonaria (TC) and Tetragonula Hockingsi (TH).
Enjoy the bees, but please do not disturb the colony, they are hard at work pollinating plants.
Note the hive and stand are not included. They are just in the photo for reference.
