Description
When the time comes to split native bee hives and you would like to get a second hive but not sure how split yourself, we can help. If you only have one hive it is always a good idea to at least split once as a backup so you always have a spare in case something was to happen to your original hive.
This service comes with the standard OATH beehive and labour to split your hive. If you would like a different hive option than the standard Honey Super OATH please talk to use for options. If your hive is not built to the OATH standard please talk to us for custom built options.
Time and date to be organised at a mutual time. This is a weather dependent service. Too hot, cold or rainy and we will need to reschedule.
Before splitting we need to check the health of your hives. Photos and weights will give us a good indication of this. Ideally, we want to see 3 kgs of mass inside the hive. If you know the empty weight of the hive that is ideal. If not we have a list of common empty hive weights here.

When doing any work on hives there are always risks involved. We will take every step possible to make sure that the splitting process is successful, but we cannot guarantee you will have two hives at the end.
We don’t recommend extracting honey at the same time as splitting as this will put extra stress on the colony.
