The OATH Beehives (Original Australian Trigona Hive) design has become the ideal place to home bees when duplicating your existing hive or rescuing a hive from an unsafe location. Social Native bee hives are traditionally found in the hollows of trees and often in water meter boxes. Hives can be built from a wide rage of material including Pine, Hardwood, Plastic, Concrete and even old hollowed out logs.
Key components for a hive are
- Entrance hole – around 10-13mm
- Vent or drain hole – around 5-7mm
- Splitting bars – These help when splitting hives to create an even split and stop the brood from slumping into the new empty base.
- Roof – This help protect the hive from rain water and heat from the sun.
